Ideas on how to store and encode your seed phrase safely with easy and cheap method.

Should you write your seed phrase on a piece of paper? What if someone breaks into your house and finds it? Seed phrase looks kind of obvious to people who know what they are looking for. But what if you could perform a simple encoding?

Encoding is basically assigning a character to a number or vice versa. For example you can say that 1 = A, 2 = B and so on. But it's too complicated. Hard to remember what your formula is etc. Instead you can use your favourite book for example, ideally book that was only issued once so in case if you lose it you can buy the same book again and recover your seed phrase from it and words will be on the same page in your new book.

The way to do it is to simply pick a word from your seed phrase, find it in the book and then write coordinates down for it's location. You are the only person who knows what book it is. And it can look like this:

1. apple = 20, 25
2. banana = 45, 65
3. ... and so on

Where for 'apple' number 20 is the number of the page, and number 25 is the 25th word on page number 20.

Your encoded seed phrase would look like this:

1. 20, 25
2. 45, 65
3. .... etc.

You get the idea. You can have your encoding formula written down in multiple places. Backed up in the cloud etc. and it's safe because you are the only one who knows which book it works with. No more stress that if your house burns down you'll lose your seed phrase written on the piece of paper. No need for metal seed phrase tablets and punching down the numbers etc. plus those metal tablets are often made out of crap quality metal that will probably melt in a house fire.

If your book is lost, just buy another one. For that ideally pick something popular but also something that has only one edition so the words always stay on the same page. Or simply remember that the book is for example Fifty Shades of Gray 2011 edition.
