if 99% of alts never recover, then why bother buying them during the bullrun?

alot of people say, dont bother with alts during the bear and stick to BTC and ETH. which is good advice. but then also say buy alts during the bullrun when things are going up. which doesnt make sense.

if 99% of alts never recover, then bull or bear, its all a gamble and it doesnt really matter because the risk is still there.

so why buy high into a gamble, when you can just buy low, like right now, hold them, and sell during the run up.

instead people buy high, knowing well how volatile alts are, then complain about having to average down when a market like this hits, throw more money at it, and pray they break even. when they couldve just waited, bought real low, and have a better chance of getting a 2x-4x instead of praying to break even.

EDIT: note how there is at least 20,000+ cryptos out there. 1% is 200. despite how 198 are doing, how is the other 19800 doing? hows Vertcoin doing? Omisego? Powerledger? Funfair? where are they now?
