If you've browsed this sub for a while, you've read tons of stories of how people lost their crypto. There are so many of them it's insane! People get hacked even with pretty decent security, centralized platforms take people's money, their alt bags turn into dust, or people just do dumb stuff and lose it all...
Here's a thought experiment that will help you reevaluate your strategy, to check if you are overinvested or not (and how much), to find things that aren't working for you. It could be helpful.
So, seriously, for a second imagine that all of your crypto is gone. The uncertainty of HOW at this point is intentional. Just imagine your crypto from Ledger, Coinbase, Binance, Yoroi, Metamask – all gone.
Try to imagine it as real as you can.\*
Now that you are imagining it, answer 3 questions:
1. Did you do all you could to prevent this?
Do you wish you'd upped your security? How exactly? If your mind is now telling you that you should have turned on that 2FA // shouldn't have chatted with that hot chick in DM's // moved your coins out of exchanges // shouldn't have used the same PC for crypto and work // shouldn't have carried all your crypto around in a phone app ... and such – don't put it off, fix it now, before you lose your crypto! Protect your coins while you have them!
2. Do you regret not pulling some cash out?
If your answer is no – congrats, you're one of those lucky bastards who aren't overinvested.
Maybe you wanted to buy a lambo or yacht but decided to "let it all roll?" I'm kidding of course, we're all broke here. My point is, don't neglect these desires – taking profits is healthy and can improve your trading/hodling.
If you have regrets answering this question – make a plan to take that money out. Make a strategy that will reach your goal: gradually DCA-ing out, waiting for a better price to sell (and than actually doing it) or dumping hopeless alts. Then you won't be overinvested and keep cryptoing with a cool head.
3. Now that it's all gone, do you regret spending all that time on crypto instead of some other stuff?
If your answer is "No" than you are me. I didn't have anything better to do with my life anyways...
If your answer is "Yes" than you have more important/valuable things to do and you know it. It means the current situation isn't working for you. You should work toward minimizing the time you spend on crypto and free the time for that other stuff! And then do that other important stuff the universe wants you to do!
Okay, thought experiment over. Go check all your wallets, portfolio trackers – all your precious dog coins and monkey nfts are still there! (I hope)
