In 2022, 13 houses were bought with cryptocurrencies in Portugal.

Last year, Portuguese notaries made 13 deeds for the purchase and sale of real estate and refused seven payment intentions with cryptocurrencies.

These are the numbers advanced to the newspaper 'Expresso' by the Order of Notaries. The publication also points out that most of the business was done in the South, with the majority being in Lisbon and the Algarve, followed by Cascais. There were also transactions in Braga, made with Bitcoin and Ethereum.

It is also known that in 2022 seven deeds were refused either because customers did not comply with the requirements in terms of preventing money laundering, or because they did not have sufficient technological knowledge to consummate the transaction, despite the investment intention, or because of doubts of the notaries about the tax rules applying to them.

It should be noted that since April last year, notaries have been able to accept this type of business, however, in statements to Expresso, Jorge Batista da Silva, president of the Order of Notaries, admits that there is a lot of work to be done in order to have a clearer legislative framework and global.
