Polygon is about to release the Agglayer and has released a Type 1 zk prover for EVM chains.

This will allow EVM rollups to generate zk proofs (without client changes).

These zk proofs will then be aggregated and settled on Ethereum to effectively unify liquidity across Layer2s.

  • Breakthrough by Polygon: Introduces the Type 1 Prover, a cutting-edge solution for transforming EVM-compatible chains into Zero-Knowledge (ZK) Layer 2 networks, enhancing integration with the Aggregation Layer.
  • Collaboration: Developed in collaboration between Polygon Labs and Toposware.
  • Cost and Speed Efficiency: Significantly reduces transaction costs to $0.002-$0.003 and increases processing speed, achieving more than a 36-fold improvement over existing solutions.
  • Open-Source Licensing: The technology is open-sourced, available under the MIT and Apache 2.0 licenses.
  • Impact on Ethereum: Aims at scaling Ethereum by facilitating efficient zero-knowledge proofs for mainnet blocks, with potential for further cost and latency reductions.
  • No Infrastructure Changes Required: Enhances scalability, interoperability, and user experience within the Ethereum ecosystem without necessitating modifications to the existing Ethereum infrastructure.
  • Advancement in ZK Technology Utilization: Sets a precedent in leveraging ZK technology for blockchain scalability, promising a significant impact on the broader blockchain and Ethereum ecosystems.
