I have discovered that to really understand why bitcoin is so amazing, it really helps to have a better understanding of how our current system works (or does not). Further, just understanding money itself is kind of useful.

Debt by David Graber was a good read for me, and there is a PDF out there called Modern Money Mechanics which describes the operations of the fed that I read long ago.
