So, I fell for this the other day. Was on opensea, looking at the insane prices some of the reddit avatars are going for. Got pretty sad because I could have made a few hundred dollars having invested <$40, but passed up the opportunity because I didn't really understand the attraction -
anyway - looked to see which were the cheapest and thought i would take a punt with $30; checked the trading history and the offers people had pending. i realised that one of the offers was higher than the listed price, so i bought that one intending to sell it immediately. when i tried to accept the offer, i got an error message "Execution reverted. Please reach out to the collection owner to troubleshoot."; tried again and got the same.
Looked at the person's profile and they had no nfts displayed, a generic name (string of letters/ numbers), and their activity consisted only of 'collection offers'. I had a look at the other collections, and it was the same for most: offers showing higher than the floor price. I have a feeling that this is a ploy to get people to buy the floor price. Don't know for certain, but I expect these generic accounts making the collection offers are owned by the people listing many of these nfts.
Just a warning: making money isn't usually that easy. Yes, this was a classic case of fear of missing out.
