Karma and you: When you are ready to take the step towards your first Moons distribution

For newer sub members who have not received any Moons yet, this can be an exciting and confusing time. Many changes are occurring, and they can all feel overwhelming. This is a quick post just to talk about Karma and Moons, how it’s natural and healthy to have questions.

The Karma snapshot is on the 1st September, some time in the afternoon. At this point, all your Karma since the previous snapshot will be tallied up. Several days later, a file will be released to the community with the details of every single participant's Karma total.

A common mistake that new sub members make is to find their name in the file and imagine this number is directly the amount of Moons they will be receiving. Sadly, this is not the case. You need to divide the raw Karma figure by the ratio we have for this month. For example:

Alice has been on the sub for less than a month. This is her first distribution and she’s very excited. She checks the CSV file and sees the number 1,000. “One thousand Moons!” exclaims Alice.

Sadly, Alice is mistaken. I’m going to make up a ratio figure for Alice: .19. What Alice needs to do is multiply 1,000 Karma x .19 to arrive at her final Moons figure for the month: 190. This is still a nice haul, but not what she was expecting.

Moons are complex and sometimes frustrating. It’s up to all of us as a community to support each other; especially newer sub members who may be unfamiliar with or even scared by their new feelings about Moons. Ultimately, they are a gift from loving creators for us all to enjoy together.
