So finally someone decided to step in. Kenya's government has stopped Worldcoin's local operations to check if they pose any risks to the people. This project requires users to give their iris scans in exchange for a digital ID, and in some countries where users get free cryptocurrency(WLD coin) as part of plans to create a new "identity and financial network". By setting it up this way, Worldcoin believes it will help poor communities get a slice of the global wealth in exchange of their biometric data.
The government is concerned with Worldcoin's activities, and agencies would probe how it intends to use the data it gathers. It has come under scrutiny in Britain, Germany, and France as well.
Interior minister Kithure Kindiki saidโRelevant security, financial services and data protection agencies have commenced inquiries and investigations to establish the authenticity and legality of the aforesaid activitiesโ
