Lessons from a failed HODLER

I have been running bitcoin for 9 years now. I lost faith once and it set me up on a path to fail. I am that early adopter who had 0 Bitcoin at the last ATH, or the previous for that matter.

At one point I HODLED to 120 BTC which I sold mostly between $350-650. I had some (less than 10) left when we peaked at $20k. I had 0 bitcoin when we hit 3500 and I still had 0 left when we hit $60k.

I do not regret selling the 10 Bitcoin for IVF treatment that gave us our first child
I do regret selling the 6 Bitcoin to buy a sports car
I do not regret selling 63 Bitcoin to move my family across country to buy a house and live a better life
I do not regret building a new garage or rewiring the electrical
I do regret remodeling the perfectly functional bathroom and kitchen at the bottom of the market.

The moral of my story is, HODLing like our lord and savior Michael Saylor is unrealistic for most of us. Don't HODL yourself into bankruptcy or out of enjoying life. Just don't get carried away, lose faith or buy things you will regret . That car for instance. If I had simply stopped to ask myself "If Bitcoin gets to $60k will i regret selling this?" I would be much better off. Had I asked myself that question about IVF the answer would have been no.

There is no shame in selling in markets like these to secure yourself a runway if it gets worse.

FYI: I have a daily buy setup which accounts for half of my disposable income. I withdraw weekly to a cold storage wallet that unless I NEED to will not stop or be accessed until 2030.
