The Lightning Network is a second layer payment protocol built on top of the Bitcoin blockchain and it enables Bitcoin users to instantly send and receive bitcoin with fees so low that they are negligible. All of the bitcoin on the Lightning Network is backed by signed transactions that can be broadcasted to the Bitcoin blockchain at any time.
