This idea has been bugging me for a while and I wanted to open a discussion here.
We all dream about mainstream crypto adoption from time to time, don’t we? I know that every time I meet a skeptic I go into a full rant about all the different (and useful) applications crypto can have in our society.
It’s a nice thought, but as far as I’m concerned, it’s a pipe dream until we will have a wallet that’s actually secure.
Right now, security seems to be more the responsibility of the end user than of the actual wallet, and you can see that more prominently in posts about people being hacked and losing their money.
Lots of people just accept the limitations of the software without questioning if these companies may have a bigger responsibility than we initially thought. Yes, we all know it’s not a good idea to connect your wallet to a shady dapp or paste your private key anywhere, but read the room: It happens all the time.
I think this approach is very wrong, and if it continues, it will hold everyone back. Nobody will ever want to touch crypto until we have a wallet that gives you the confidence that you won't lose every single cent in a blink of an eye.
Sure, it’s not all bad news. Lots of companies are realizing the hot wallet market needs more innovation and are trying their best to come up with solutions. I remember seeing a post awhile back about a wallet with anti-phishing protection. We need more companies doing things like this.
So what are your thoughts? I’m truly curious how big a role you think wallet security plays in mass adoption.
