I'm writing this as a response to a recent post that basically made the argument that there's no reason to use XMR unless you're a criminal and or tax evader.
Here's why that's bullshit:
First off, you're going off the assumption that anyone who doesn't want somebody else to be able to completely monitor their activities is up to no good. This is simply not true.
You wouldn't tell a random stranger everything you buy and spend money on, yet that's what you're asking all of us to do. Blind faith in institutions that have proven time and time again to not be on the side of regular people.
Secondly, privacy is a human right. Why?
Because power corrupts. If you're interested in keeping your freedom, you're best to not give up every last ounce of it. From a basic psychological point of view, there's simply no reason I should trust someone to monitor my behavior if I can't do the same with them. Trust is a two way street and needs to be earned.
Thirdly, here are a few other things that objectively support tax evasion and or organised crime:
- governments
- banks
- cash
- Amazon (CCP)
- Starbucks
Almost every clothing brand and almost any big corporation.
Do something about that, and I'll start worrying about Average Joe.
