Most don't understand, and some do not want to. We are still early.

I had a, let's just call it 'Spirited Discussion' with a long time family friend about Bitcoin. This individual is a 63 year old, wealthy, professional trader in energy (not 100% sure, but he is a trader by... trade). Anyway, I simply mentioned Bitcoin in passing and he very emphatically denounced it, spouting the typical claims we often hear against Bitcoin.

1.) "It has no value, no intrinsic value."

2.) "It is just gambling." (his wife was in the background shouting, "Listen to the trader! Listen to the trader!" this is when I knew it is going to $1M lol)

3.) "If you think the Internet can't be hacked you are sadly mistaken."

4.) "Something big will happen, some kind of major hack and it will all be over." (He claimed FTX was not big and seems to think all the corn is held in one... central... place?)

5.) "When the shit hits the fan, markets tank, Bitcoin will tank too."

The list goes on and on... and it occurred to me that, not only did he not understand Bitcoin, he doesn't WANT to understand it. He doesn't WANT Bitcoin to succeed.

I realize now that there is an entire generation of wealthy people who DON'T NEED BITCOIN and who DON'T WANT BITCOIN. It is as simple as that. We are simply an entire generation early.

It also occurred to me that many people who COULD understand Bitcoin, like this individual, also have a chip on their shoulder. He made it very clear to me that "I've been watching Bitcoin for over a decade." or "I told my Director at the Firm we should buy $50K worth at $100 per coin and they laughed at me." But the reality is HE NEVER MADE A MOVE. HE NEVER TOOK A CHANCE. And now instead of buying and taking the time to understand what Bitcoin is, he only hopes it fails to prove himself and many others like him right.

I entered this discussion with him with an open mind. I know he is a successful and intelligent man. He knows the markets, he knows money. I don't want to live inside an echo chamber. I want to hear dissenting views and learn. The irony is that I came away from this fiery discussion with MORE conviction. I realized that although I don't understand Bitcoin, no-one truly does, I do have a fundamental understanding of the WHY and the HOW. I had the 'Consciousness Elevating AHA!' Moment long ago when it finally clicked WHY Bitcoin is marvelously different than anything else man kind has ever harnessed.

In retrospect, the conversation proved to be a positive experience for both my friend and me. I emerged with an enhanced appreciation for Bitcoin and a reaffirmed commitment to the pursuit of knowledge devoid of hubris. Simultaneously, my friend departed with a newfound sense of curiosity, having encountered responses to his objections that were previously unfamiliar to him.

We are still early.

Everyone buys Bitcoin at the price they deserve.
