My Adventures as a Crypto Bounty Hunter: Dumbest Scammers Edition Part3

Due to popular demand, I'm returning with the episode 3 of the dumbest scammers edition. I'm a crypto bounty hunter and today I’ll share a recent encounter I have had with a scammer.

Alzheimer Man

While working on behalf of a client, I encountered a scammer who managed to steal over 200 BNB - and none of his wallets had any trace that it had been KYC'd before.

The perpetrator decided to launder the funds using Tornado Cash a common Ethereum mixer which makes the transactions way harder for me to track (but not impossible), now have in mind that I was seeing this happen live and so it was frustrating to say the least. I believed the scammer was going to held out the funds on tornado cash indefinitely and I had to tell my client it was impossible for him to retrieve his funds at that moment.

Usually, when I reach a dead end I usually pause the case for a couple of days to look at it with fresh eyes and to see if the scammers made any new transactions.

After 3 days I came back and started from the beginning. I took a look at the first transaction hash where my client had his funds stolen, and looked at all the following transactions which were a sequence of transactions where the perp divided the total amount via multiple wallets only to gather the funds in 2 final wallets which were used to send the funds to Tornado Cash. While looking at one of the "old" wallets I found out the scammer had made a mistake, the perp had made two 100 BNB withdrawals to a old wallet that had been previously tagged, something that I found odd and confusing, maybe he was using multiple Metamask wallets and just made a mistake? I don’t know if it was laziness, or he just forgot that he used that wallet for previous shady activities but this scammer has gained the tittle "Alzheimer man" in my heart.

Last I heard binance had frozen hes assets so safe to say this didn't go as planned, and in the end he got some Queasy_Length Justice!
