My analysis on how much Karma you would have to earn on this sub to consider MOON farming a full-time job.

Before I begin with this, I'd like to say that the numbers that are used are all estimates, and based off my own (limited) previous experience with the sub. On top of this, some of the information/rules for MOON farming that were taken into consideration from this are from a 2-year-old post on this sub, and I'm not sure how much the rules for the MOON distribution have changed since then.

With that out of the way, I'm going to set a few baselines for my boundaries that I'll be taking into consideration when doing calculations:

• USA Minimum Wage, as specified by the US Department of Labour: $9.50
• Current price of Reddit MOONs (at the time of the calculations): $0.2181

The first thing I did was calculate my ratio of Karma per MOONs in Round 38 of the MOONs distribution. I got 96 Karma overall and was distributed 67 MOONs. Using this, I calculated a ratio of 1.43 Karma per Moon. While this is quite a rough way to do it, as I don't know the ratio of upvotes and downvotes that I got, or the ratio of posts and comments that gave me that Karma, it'll do the job for now. Another thing that I'd like to mention is that these numbers are quite low, and I'm not sure if this ratio will change when you earn more Karma, but I don't see why it would.

Next, I calculated the monthly minimum wage in the USA, assuming a 40-hour work week and 4 weeks worked in a month. This came out to $1520 BEFORE Tax (I'm not taking tax into account for this, as it would make everything incredibly complicated, as well as vary vastly between countries). To get this value, I multiplied the minimum wage by the working time per week, then multiplied that value by 4.

(9.50 * 40 * 4 = 1520)

The next step in this was to calculate the amount of moons that you would need to reach this value. Again, this was done with the value of $0.2181 per MOON. The calculation for this was 1520/0.2181, and it resulted in an answer of 6969.28 MOONs (Nice).

So in the end, you would need 6970 MOONs per month to earn minimum wage in America, assuming a minimum wage of $9.50 per hour.

At the start of this post I referred to another Reddit post from this sub, which stated the following rules in it:

• For posts, 1 Upvote = 1 Karma ( The self-upvote doesn't contribute towards Karma Earnings)
• For comments, 1 Upvote = 2 Karma (The self-upvote doesn't contribute towards Karma Earnings)
• Posts with COMEDY or MEDIA flairs only earn 10% of the karma that posts with other flairs earn.
• Only 1,000 (1K) Karma per post/comment will be taken into account for the monthly MOON distribution
• Only 15,000 (15K) Karma per month is taken into consideration for the monthly MOON Distribution

With these rules in mind, I worked out the following values:

• You would need 9968 upvotes purely from posts to earn 6970 MOONs
• You would need 4984 upvotes purely from comments to earn 6970 MOONs
• You would need 99670 upvotes purely from COMEDY/MEDIA posts to earn 6970 MOONs.
