Ok, so I opened a Mt Gox account in 2013 and can’t remember if I bought any, but I have an old wallet that I rediscovered a couple of years ago. Unfortunately, I can’t figure out how to open it.
All I have is a file entitled “bitcoin-wallet-keys-2013-12-01” that I sent to myself on my email account and the following text:
“The attached encrypted file contains Bitcoin private keys and should be kept safe at all times. Don't forget the encryption password.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.schildbach.wallet
https://github.com/schildbach/bitcoin-wallet “
I had it on my old android phone. So I downloaded an old android emulator and got a hold of an old copy of the schildbach wallet android app from around 2013. I imported the file. Then it asked for a password. I can’t remember it. If I wrote it down, it’s long gone! I’ve been trying to figure it out for the last couple of years but with no success. Is there any way to crack this? I’m assuming the file is encrypted.
I’m finally turning to the r/bitcoin community to see if someone can help. Please note this is a throwaway account and that I will not respond to any DMs. Many thanks in advance to anyone who helps me out. My family really needs this now. We’re keeping our fingers crossed that there’s some chance we can access this wallet.
