New to the crypto world

Good morning everyone!

I am new to the crypto world, and am wondering your guys thoughts on what to buy?

Obviously I'd like to invest in the new bitcoin where I get on and ground level and retire at age 40, but I know that isn't necessarily realistic.

I only want to be investing a couple thousand over the course of a year in hopes of having some extra money in the future for my upcoming wedding, and when I have kids.

What are your guys "safe investments" when it comes to crypto? I would like something similar to bitcoin that has potential to grow (even if my money sits for a few years) but is expected to grow and will make me some money.

And what tips do you have for new comers?

For reference I've just created an account on coinbase, but do not have a wallet or anything as of yet.
