Old phone to cold-ish wallet: Exodus won't facilitate a direct link to their APK

I have this old phone home and I was a bit bored, so I decided I'd turn it into a not-so-hot wallet. The plan was to wipe clean the phone, download a software wallet, copy the APK into an offline device (probably a USB with a bootable Ubuntu) and from there install the wallet into the phone. The idea was to install the app from an offline fresh OS directly into an offline fresh OS and then create the wallet so that the installation was as insulated as my knowledge allows me to.

I chose to go with Exodus because is a wallet I have used before and I'm familiar with the UI, plus it supports pretty much all the cryptos I own and a bunch more. So I go to their site and... no APK. You can download your desktop wallet from there, but if you want the phone version you can only choose Goggle Play or Play Store.

So, I contacted them and kindly requested a link to download the APK from their site. They replied on a timely manner and, equally kindly, declined my request. The reason: security risks.

While at it, they informed me that there are 3rd party sites offering it, and that my funds might be at risk if I use those. For that reason, they said, the only way of getting the app is through Google Play or Play Store.

I let them know how nonsensical it is to tell people to avoid 3rd parties and then send them to a 3rd party to get the app. Their answer was that they'll bring this forward and revaluate the demand for a direct APK download from their site. I'm no very optimistic about it, but at least I tried.

Anyway, I just downloaded the app from Google Play and then pulled the APK from the phone into the PC. I does require an extra phone whipping step though.

I know it's not a fancy Ledger, but it came at no cost, gave a new life to an old phone, and moved the funds out of the every day use PC. I'd say it's an improvement.
