I have a ledger nano that I've been using since 2017. I rarely use it and when I did last week, I had to update ledger live and the firmware, and my balance was gone. I learned that this was because the addresses were generated on an older derivation path which the current ledger live software doesn't support.
When I used my ledger it with MEW, it worked as expected. However the experience did make me wonder: if I keep using the old addresses, is there a risk that at some point, wallet apps like ledger live or MEW will no longer support them , and should I send it to addresses on a newer derivation path? Or does that question make no sense?
My reason for asking was that until now I used the ledger live app to send and receive money, and it suddenly not being able to access my coins made me nervous.
