POS

Hey everyone, maybe a stupid question but while the konsens will be changed from pow to pos i have a question maybe some people here can best help to answear since having both worlds around. While i understand ruffly pow with generating New blocks by work, race of problemsolving and Mathematik etc i really cant understand pos. How are New blocks generated Just by staking some coins ? It is like total basic in my mind, if i work in a mine and get paid for or i throw money in the corner and generate more money/get paid for. Help me please to understand it better ( sry if my english is not the best, i am no native speaker but i hope you understand my problem/question)
