Potential topics for a research essay

Hi there,

I'm a Master's student and as part of my Ethereum module, we need to dedicate a topic of a paper to the Ethereum ecosystem. In roughly 3000 words we need to research a topic, however, it shall not be high level. Does anyone have an idea on a suitable topic and how to get deeper into it? Was thinking about:

• Layer 2
• Gas fee
• ERC-20 tokens and correlations to X
• ERC-720 tokens
• Specific Smart Contracts

Any input would be much appreciated as I'm tapping in the dark right now and reading through different papers does not provide an eye-opening moment.
