PSA Do not tell most friends/family about crypto

Unless they are mature and open minded, can handle an intellectual conversation and even spend time on the subject for more than 10 hours

When I found out about bitcoin in 2013 and invested in it - I became fascinated by it, like others I would share my thoughts on it to friends and family. I would say over 90% don’t get it and don’t care to.

Funny enough you can be labeled the “weird crypto guy” and they only seem to be extra nice in bull markets.

Comments like “so I heard that bitcoin thing is up, how much do you have?”, “how do I buy”

I usually advise them on doing research first and point them in the right directions. I’ve come to grip that many in fact don’t care for the technology but for the money. Like most retail traders they ignore buying in the bear market and become bag holders in the bull market.

The problem comes in the bear markets. Despite what sound advices you can give, be wary as others look to you in a negative light. I literally have a friend who sends me each FUD article in this space like he is trying to prove a point. The immature ones blame you for their losses indirectly.

My closest sibling who knows I’m an advocate for bitcoin likes to rub it in especially in bear markets “bitcoin is a scam, it’ll never survive, can’t be a medium of exchange, all of those exchanges will go bankrupt” and when you make factual points you get no where.

It’s best not to argue but to allow it to take its course. Bitcoin and crypto is here to stay

Like many transformative technologies there is huge resistance and disbelief until it becomes part of daily fabric of life

It’s safe to say bitcoin is early in its adoption. By the end of this decade we can see CBDC’s take over and bitcoin will be much more adopted - only then will I think people see the value of bitcoin and appreciate its properties
