PSA: Don't forget to protect your privacy when receiving NFTs and tokens

All Cryptocurrencies

The new Reddit NFTs are quite successful and are a sign of things to come as more companies engage and reward their customers with NFTs and tokens. Our digital footprints will become larger as more things move onto public blockchains, and there will be more ways we could unintentionally share too much information about ourselves.

For people who want to protect their privacy, a good practice is to create multiple crypto wallets for different purposes and avoid directly sending assets between your anonymous wallets and wallets already linked to you. Hardware and software wallets often make it possible to generate and name as many wallet accounts you want from a single seed phrase. Anonymous wallets can be funded through non-KYC exchanges. In account-based blockchains it is usually easy to make wallets and keep them separated, but UTXO-based ones may need more work to set up.

Example: if a company rewards you with NFTs or tokens, provide an anonymous wallet address made for this purpose. If you want to sell assets, fund the wallet and set up the needed marketplace account. If a company has personal information like email or phone, or it is an NFT you plan to publicly display such as a unique profile picture, you may want to create another wallet address just for them.
