Question: need help for book I am writing

Good morning, I'm writing a novel and although it is not focused on Bitcoin, it will play a recurring role in the story.

I have a plot point that I want to make sure I get right from a technical perspective. I'd also love to get some feedback on likely points of controversy in this situation, so any feedback on what I'm getting wrong would be greatly appreciated:

The story is set in the near future. Due to the theoretical threat of a quantum attack on elliptic curve cryptography, Bitcoin has a BIP on the shelf, ready to execute if the capability is demonstrated. This involves migrating from ECC to an unnamed quantum-resistant cryptography scheme. The Bitcoin network would be forked, and all users must migrate their balances to new addresses. Addresses that aren't migrated in time (for example Satoshi's Bitcoin are considered likely to be in this category) are considered up for grabs, and some consider them a bounty to quantum computing development.

At this point in time, that plan is widely accepted by the community.

However, a breakthrough in quantum computing makes the planned BIP obsolete before it has been implemented. Therefore a last minute change is proposed to the BIP, and it is implemented on shorter than desired notice, causing massive contention. It's important to note, the breakthrough is not widely understood at first, even among physics/crypto experts, and especially among general users.

1) Legacy Bitcoin community forms holding on to the old fork. Claims this is an effort by the Core Devs to take control of the protocol.

2) Massive scams erupt centered around assisting folks in migrating their Bitcoin to new addresses.

3) Many mainstream economists and central bankers criticize Bitcoin, their general narrative is the claim that Bitcoin's ruleset is decentralized and out of any group's control are proved false.

4) Controversy as different groups are able to claim large numbers of Satoshi's coins, some claim to be Satoshi, returned to help guide the community through this contentious fork.

Somewhat outside the scope of this subreddit, but because ECC is compromised, threats are also identified in other crypto, and computers in general. A cottage consulting industry of people that understand the BIP are working industry-wide to implement solutions before the quantum attack becomes a reality.
