Their code is available online, but they aren't open-source. As many of us already know, they locked down their licensing due to Foundation using their code to create the Passport. They have completely removed the "open-source" language from their website – because they aren't open-source anymore:
- Some will say that as long as the code is available for the public it's fine. Cool
- Others rebut that being open source helps others improve existing code + identify potential bugs, bc others are actively using + building on the code – and Coldcard no longer benefits from this. Valid
I felt the need to express this since I was recently downvoted for saying that Coldcard is not open-source. Idc about the comment karma, I moreso care that fellow coiners have the correct information since people in that thread truly seemed to believe that Coldcard is open-source like Bitbox, Foundation, Jade etc. Coldcard is not considered an open-source Bitcoin Wallet.
