Ready to pull the trigger on Lean FIRE, but struggling with a high crypto allocation. Stay or exit?

Hey everyone,

Long-time lurker here, finally approaching the starting line. I’m 37 and preparing to Lean FIRE soon. My plan is to move to a low cost of living area internationally where my baseline housing is entirely taken care of and my living expenses will be very minimal.

Financially, my core safety net is solid: I have a good chunk in traditional index funds/401k and solid cash reserves. However, I also have a significant, decent-sized portion of my net worth sitting in Bitcoin.

Because my retirement timeline is incredibly long, I’m wrestling with the classic "yield shield" vs. wealth preservation dilemma. On one hand, part of me wants to completely de-risk, exit the crypto allocation into boring old VOO/VT, and watch it compound with zero stress.

On the other hand, the math on geo-arbitrage means my local living costs are already covered by my non-crypto assets, so this BTC could technically act as a massive long-term growth engine if I just leave it alone.

For those who have transitioned into early retirement with a crypto allocation:

1. Did you scale back to 100% traditional equities before pulling the trigger, or did you keep a "moonbag" as an inflation hedge?
2. How do you psychologically handle the sequence of returns risk when dealing with crypto's massive swings?

I know nobody has a crystal ball, but given where the macro landscape stands right now, I'm trying to gauge whether it's smarter to exit to traditional buckets today, or stay parked and wait to de-risk during the next major market expansion.

Where is everyone's head at regarding the current cycle timeline are you expecting the next major structural bull run to hold off until closer to the 2028 halving, or do you think the institutional ETF inflows are permanently changing the old 4-year cycle dynamics?
