Robinhood Chain's launch was a hilarious off-script success

Launched on July 1, 2026, Robinhood Chain was an Ethereum Layer 2 blockchain built using Arbitrum technology. With the backing of a retail friendly trading giant, Robinhood Chain positioned itself as an RWA chain, with its flagship feature said to be tokenizing stocks that are trading on their trad-fi trading platform.

Instead, within weeks of its launch we saw the proliferation of memecoin launchpads on Robinhood Chain and eventually the birth of CASHCAT, which soared to over $200M in market capitalization in a matter of days. Now, memecoins account for over 79.2% of the network’s daily DEX volume.

We then saw a strange fallout where their prominent launchpad Noxa went down unexpectedly 2 weeks ago, and then within days they announced they lost control of their website domains and have since gone dark. Ponsfamily appears to have taken the gap left behind by Noxa but expectedly this has led to CASHCAT crashing over 30%.

That being said, RWA still remains a growing sector on Robinhood and interestingly has led to the rise of Memecoin x Stock liquidity pairings (just crypto things).

All in all, Robinhood’s chain metrics suggest a successful launch and healthy metrics but that does start to raise questions about how Robinhood intends to position itself in the future, is it supposed to be the serious RWA-focused chain it built itself to be? Or should it pivot to become a retail/memecoin trading hub similar to that of Solana?

Currently, their founders appear supportive of both sides. Just six days after telling CNBC that "the future of crypto is in real-world assets" and questioning the benefit of "making a million different meme coins," CEO Vlad Tenev posted on X: "While we're building Robinhood Chain to be the best chain for RWA... it works great for memes too." While I don't know how this would work It seems Robinhood Chain will be positioning itself as the chain where serious meets unserious.
