Running my own Bitcoin node without external software

Looking to set up a Bitoin node. I've scoured the threads and have a simple question.

Do I need Umbrel, MyNode, Start9..etc?

My understanding is that all you really need is a computer and Bitcoin Core installed on that computer. Sure, there'll be some extra keys to press but I don't really understand why the services listed above have become so popular? What am I missing?

Edit: Btw, I understand that the services listed above makes life easier, but is it really that hard to set up a full node? The main reason I ask in the first place is to make sure I'm not setting myself up for failure by choosing not to take on any of those dependencies
