Scam Messages from Reddit Member?

I received a message from a Redditor with 1 year history, but I'm assuming they are just a scammer at this point.

Does anyone know anything about scammers sending out messages like this: (I am NOT saying this, I think it's a scam):

Congratulations You have been selected among the winners of the Eth giveaway You won $5000 Eth giveaway randomly punksbitcoin giveaways Drop your wallet so I can credit you , make a screenshot of your initial balance , you have to be an active investor because I am sending from my hardware token

Another reason I think a scam is that it came in almost immediately after I replied to one thread in r/BitcoinBeginners.

Sorry if this is the wrong place, but I figured if they're talking Eth, what better place to ask folks.

How common is this stuff?

I've thought about mentioning the redditor's name, but I didn't want to for now, in case maybe their account just got hijacked or spoofed somehow.
