The final testnet dress rehearsal for Ethereum's Shapella update for ETH withdrawals has been successful. There were some initial minor delays due to inactive validators not upgrading.
Core dev Tim Beiko noted that this was likely either due to validators being lazy and not monitoring their testnet clients because there's no monetary incentive, or because their clients hardware was slower. Neither of these issues is expected to happen on mainnet.
Once enough of the validators updated their clients, the Shapella upgrade activated successfully as designed.
15 epochs later, Goerli has finalized.
There was nothing wrong with the Client software. We just had to get the offline operators to upgrade. It was a good stress test.
The Ethereum mainnet update is next on the list, with a likely target of early April.
