Shrinkflation: a subtle way to hide inflation

At long last, shrinkflation has showed up in my country's supermarkets as well.

For those of you who don't know, "shrinkflation" is the reduction of weight/content of a product within its package.

This is essentially a way (deceptively) to seemingly keep prices to stay the same, thus hiding the effects of inflation.

After all, prices are what customers check first and foremost. Only the savviest would notice that your pasta package is now 100g less than before, your beer can is now slightly smaller, there's 1 less Oreo in the package, etc.

Some internet/mobile companies previously tried something similar, by reducing the monthly fee to a 28 days cycle, but luckily that was stopped by regulation.

If you think inflation hasn't affected you, check if what you're getting today is the same that you used to get.

Ultimately tis just another reason to ditch fiat money.
