So I’m looking for someone with more knowledge than myself to explain something to me about Base.

Ok so basically I’m looking into adding some coins from the base network to my portfolio, I’ve done some reading into some of the coins on that ecosystem but there’s a couple of things that are Confusing to me as well as their collaboration with Optimism.

So I see that ETH will be used for gas fees and what not, so what is the purpose of having the base token at all if this is the case and where will Optimism come into play if there’s going to be ETH, Base and Optimism all as tokens?

There’s also a token called base protocol, which measures the the total market cap of all the crypto currencies which is very interesting but what is the purpose of this to base and why wouldn’t this be the native token over the actual base token?

Coinbase mentioned that they will not be creating a new native token for Base so considering there’s going to be ETH used as gas fees, Base which will Be the native token, Optimism and base protocol, how is this all going to work together and from an investment point of view how would you know which will be the most popular for long term gains or what would give you an indication of which would be the main coin that has the most purpose.
