Owning one of them gives you an even more unique avatar badge that amplifies your name in comments and has a special layout in your user profile. Original Block is owned by /u/samzfury and Snooprematic is owned by /u/jespow (ex-ceo of Kraken) while the other two aren't associated with a Reddit account.

It looks like the only one to have ever been resold is, Original Block which was minted for 175* ETH $327K and sold to SamZfury for 42 ETH $78K - a realized loss of $249K.

But these avatars are only worth what someone is willing to pay for them, and right now that's about ~$20.

With people having made money on GEN 1 and GEN 2 it's easy to get excited about the potential for profit on GEN 3. But you should always remember Reddit Avatars aren't guaranteed to resell above mint cost and you should be comfortable losing your money and holding any avatars you buy.

In GEN 2 there were 27 artists - in Gen 3 there are 97+ artists and each artist will have their own separate collection to buy/sell from on OpenSea, further splitting up the total resale market. It's almost guaranteed that some avatars from Gen 3 will sell at a profit, but it's not definite which will and if any will not, so spending any amount on Avatars for the purpose of reselling should be considered a gamble, not an investment.
