I've noticed the trend as of the recent months with all the MOON hype going around. Since the mainnet announcement user activity in the subreddit has increased, after a lot of us have fallen into a bear market hibernation mode.
And that's great! Increased activity naturally attracts people who want to contribute and have knowledge and information to offer. Information and knowledge is one of the most important investments one can make during a bear market.
However, this goes both ways.
It's been a common theme, ever since community points were introduced, that during market dips/bear markets, the activity here slows down but quality also increased at the same time. Now, with all the hype for moons coming back, everyone is rushing to comment anything and everything just to join the hype. And that's fine. I have also done this several times, most of us have done it. The problem though, is that the subreddit becomes hostile and downvotes run rampant, shitposting is everywhere, people fight with each other and the whole environment becomes toxic.
It's important to offer as much information and help as possible towards newcomers. If and when the next bull run begins, I predict that the user growth and activity of this subreddit will increase dramatically. It's important to offer value as a community and prove that Cryptocurrencies and Blockchain technology goes beyond hype and speculation. It is something that a lot of us here believe in and financial motives is not the only reason we're here.
TL;DR: Moon hype = increased hostility. Be kind and offer value. We want to grow the space together.
