The blockchain being used in El Salvador to allow Bitcoin transactions is not Bitcoin or Lightning network, it's ALGORAND! Here is the evidence why I think Algorand will run all of the crypto infrastructure in Central America and South America.

I know it's confusing! It's taken me awhile to piece it together as they haven't been very transparent about what technology is really being used. But it looks like Algorand is doing all the heavy lifting behind the scene's to allow people to transact with their BTC in El Salvador. Every time anyone want's to buy a coffee in El Salvador they're using Algorand behind the scenes!

We know Koibanx signed an agreement to build all of El Salvador's public crypto infrastructure on Algorand but it's hard to find something confirming Chivo is built on Algorand. What we do know is that Chivo is NOT built on the Bitcoin or Lightning network. It seem's like there is only one real conclusion: ALGORAND.

My guess is Algorand will be used by the majority of Central American and South American countries to build out their crypto infrastructure.

TL;DR: Evidence is pointing to Algorand being the blockchain that will be used in Central and South America. Companies that span most of central/south america are working together on El Salvador's infrastructure, such as BitGo, Koibanx, Bitso, Silvergate Bank, Athena Bitcoin.
