The Future of Decentralized Finance (DeFi)

Hey guys, I had a bit of time today and decided to write a small ELI5 post regarding DeFi for newcomers so it can be easier to understand the term and how important it is for the crypto world.

With DeFi, you can do most of the things that banks support — earn interest, borrow, lend, buy insurance, trade derivatives, trade assets, and more. It also allows people to move their assets anywhere at any time without asking for permission, waiting for long transfers to finish, and paying expensive fees.

However, there are also downsides to DeFi. Fluctuating transaction rate on the Ethereum blockchain mean that active trading can get expensive. Depending on which dapps you use and how you use them, your investment could experience high volatility – this is after all new tech.Despite these concerns, DeFi has been growing rapidly in recent years. According to a report by DappRadar the total value locked in DeFi protocols reached an all-time high of $157 billion in May 2021. This sugests that there is significant interest in DeFi and that it could be here to stay.

In conclusion, DeFi is an exciting develoment in the world of finance that has the potential to revolutionize the way we think about money. While there are certainly risks involved with investing in DeFi protocols there are also significant benefits to be gained.
