The New York Times just called miners turning off to prevent blackouts during a snowstorm, “market manipulation“. They clearly just want to talk bad about Crypto no matter in what context.

Crypto and mainstream media have a long and complicated relationship, already in the first years mainstream media was constantly reporting on why Bitcoin is a “ponzi scheme“ and they ironically just boosted its popularity with those articles. Still today they, on aggregate, call Bitcoin to be dead about every month. Other of their articles about Crypto are usually based off a very small sample or outright false informations to just talk bad about Crypto.

Our recent example is the New York Times article about Bitcoin mining titled “The Real World Costs for digital race for Bitcoin“, which already tells just about how objective their article will be. They basically criticise, how bad Bitcoin mining is and why miners are such bad people.

Here is an excerpt from that article from BTC_Archive as the article is under paywall and I am sure no one wants to pay for that.

Basically they say that it is bad that miners are able to instantly shut off their operations to “safe money“, avoid fees, “resell“ electricity and a bunch of other stuff tossed out there with no real evidence, even if it may be true. But their one and only example for that is quite fascinating:

In Texas miner were asked to shut off their operations recently to prevent blackouts and they earned money for that, surprisingly their so well researched article does not mention that this was during a devastating snowstorm to help out the Texas grid.

Such articles by now have become very common, especially just during the FTX collapse those media channels were known to talk very good about our “philanthropist“ SBF. It is truly sad where Journalism is today, the source everyone is supposed to trust are so clearly picking one side and talking all kind of bad about the other with mostly false information.

Small bonus: Their original tweet about this article actually even got ratio-ed by Riot Platforms, one of the leading Bitcoin miners.
