The next Bear Market could be the worse one yet

All Cryptocurrencies

Ok time for a controversial take. Before you flood me with downvotes, bear in mind I say COULD. This is only my personal perspective in trying to give you a different take from all the hopium in this sub; not to spread FUD but to start a conversation together.

Why I say the next Bear Market could be the worse one we’ve seen yet?

Simple enough: crypto so far has only existed in a BULL MARKET, one of the longest of recorded history. The last major economic crash happened in 2007-2008, mainly because of overly-aggressive lending and the burst of the housing market. Since then, the financial market has been steadily rising in a constant and perpetual Bullish sentiment.

No, last year’s Covid Crash has done nothing to stop it. If you look at all major indices like S&P500 and Nasdaq, or any other countries similar index, the markets have all recovered immediately after Covid hit. It’s quite the opposite, as the trillions of new cash printed in the recovery have all flowed directly into the financial market, breaking new ATH in all stocks indices week after week.

What does any of this have anything to do with Crypto? Simple: Bitcoin was born in 2009, AFTER the 2008 crisis.

This means that entire Crypto ecosystem so far HAS ONLY EXISTED IN A BULL MARKET.

Even the 2018 crypto crash that saw BTC drop by more than 60% WAS IN A BULL MARKET. Crypto fell down of favor, but the financial market as a whole continued its steady climb up.

That’s why I’m extremely worried for the next market cycle. What will happen if the next Crypto bear market coincides with a global crisis? What will happen to BTC price if the entire stock market drops by something like 50%?

The vast majority of this sub (myself included) has only ever experienced a positive market climate. I bet almost no one here understand what a “Lost Decade” is. What does it mean for the entire global economy to be stagnant for year after year.

No, most of the people here come from this year’s Bull Cycle, are relatively young, and think that even with major dips the market will continue to grow indefinitely. No one understand the emotional impact of having your entire net worth (not just your crypto stash) drop by 90% and stay like that. No one understand how people killed themselves overnight over a red candle.

No one here even fathoms how the idea of HODLing BTC or ETH could be a bad thing. “Sure, we may crash like last halving, but after that we’ll recover right? Right?”.

A lot of people here also say that “this time will be different”, because hedge funds and institutions are now investing and adopting crypto. “This time will be different” is what everyone said in every bubble before a major collapse, thinking that new market conditions would have shielded them from any harm.

We must be careful. All of us. Thinking that you can predict and outsmart the market just ‘cause you bought a dip here and there is pure disillusion. Everyone is a genius in a Bull Market.

Never, EVER invest more than you’re willing to lose. Because that may happen, and eventually (and statistically) it WILL happen.

There, rant over. Now you can downvote me all you want.

EDIT: eheh the majority of the comments so far confirms the idea that no one here has ever seen a bear market

EDIT2: people commenting are missing the point. Most you are saying “wow imagine buying BTC/ETH at x prices!!”. That won’t be the thing you’ll be doing in a global crisis: most of the people during 2007-2008 barely even had money to survive month by month.
