The state will soon get a new tool for tracking bank accounts and information on renting safe deposit boxes. This follows from a new decree of the Ministry of Finance of the Slovak Republic, which is due to enter into force shortly. The decree establishes new details in the matter of sending data to the Central Register of Accounts, informs the FinReport portal.

Banks and other obliged entities will thus have six months to start sending data on bank accounts to the central register. However, banks will not report movements or balances on clients' accounts to the register.

"The task of the Central Register of Accounts is to provide a list of account numbers and their owners to authorized authorities when investigating suspicions of committing criminal acts," the Ministry of Finance explained.

However, police officers and SIS officers will have access to data that will allow them to assign account numbers to specific individuals or legal entities. This will make it easier for investigators to identify suspects.

What information will authorized persons have access to?

• the name, registered office address and identification number of the financial institution that maintains the account or rents the safety deposit box;
• the date of commencement of the safe deposit box rental;
• account creation date;
• account number and international bank account number IBAN, if assigned;
• clear identification of the safety deposit box;
• the date of creation and termination of the client's authorization to manage funds on the account;
• account cancellation date;
• end date of the safe deposit box rental

At the same time, the police and SIS will have access to the client's identification data in different ranges.

• in the case of natural persons, the name, surname, birth number or date of birth, if the birth number was not assigned, address of permanent residence or other place of residence;
• for natural persons - entrepreneurs: in addition to the above data, they will have access to the business name, address of the place of business and identification number;
• in the case of legal entities, the name, registered office address and identification number.
