All the alts have been pumping, but there is some pretty big news coming from Solana. The BreakPoint Conference in Portugal, has hundreds of speakers and new plans for the future. I've picked out a few interesting ones for everyone. Solana NFTs can now be bought on Instagram and Facebook. Solana is already the second highest chain of NFT sales by volume. Only Ethereum sells more. One year ago, 4.5m NFTS were sold on Solana in Q4, and despite the bear market, it is now 9 million - that is a 100% increase during a bear market. Google Cloud are now a block producing validator on the network. And soon, anyone who wants to become a Solana validator will be able to do so via Google Cloud. No more hardware costs. In January, they outlined a massive plan to become significantly more decentralised. Since then, Solana has moved from less than 300 to more than 2000 validators, simultaneously moving its Nakamoto Coefficient from 19 to 31. It is now the 4th most decentralised chain by that metric. App Dev kits are now available for the Solana mobile phone - SAGA Since it is also being built with Android means it is already compatible with all Android apps. No other blockchain is trying to innovate crypto like this. The seed phrase is stored securely on the phone - not on a server, and can not be accessed even by Android. "As close to a hardware wallet as you can get" was the phrase used. You can view the livestream where the phone was just discussed. Anatoly even openly discussed the downtimes and outages. Anatoly discussed how the blockchain has struggled with maintaining uptime, particularly in June, but new developments should avoid this in the future. He then broke down the blockchain's four biggest problems moving forward; if it's able to solve these, then it will achieve the blockchain's ultimate goal. Here are some general points I picked out. Obviously the implementation of QUIC 1.10 to validators was a key milestone. "We have had a whole lot of challenges this year. I would say this last year has been all about reliability. " "Things got really, really bad in June. Blocktime was over a second .... impacting users. It was pretty bad, and not the experience we want to deliver. " "There was never a time when we shut down validators, or asked anybody to stop voting or participating, " "We are in a constant fight between performance, throughput and decentralisation. ... Whenever you improve one, you may actually hurt some of the other ones. " "We still have challenges with outages, but having a second implementation with a second team, the probability of experiecing the same types of bugs is virtually zero." Still to come at the Conference The Conference is still going right now - another two days to go. And according to the agenda, we are still yet to hear the latest about the performance optimisation, news from Circle, some new ecosystem hub, Helium integration the plans for mobile gaming on the Solana blockchain. TLDR: Google is now a Solana validator. [link] [comments] |
