At first, I was lost with how does L2 ETH blockchains do even work but after using some of them - Arbitrum One, Optimism and Arbitrum Nova (swapping ????s), I started to like how quick they are and how low fees they have.
At the moment, I can see there are two major players:
Technology | TVL | Market Share | |
---|---|---|---|
Arbitrum One | Optimistic Rollup* | $6.02B | 56.74% |
Optimism | Optimistic Rollup* | $2.85B | 26.91% |
zkSync Era | ZK Rollup** | $450M | 4.24 % |
dYdX | ZK Rollup** | $337M | 3.17 % |
Base | Optimistic Rollup** | $157M | 1.48 % |

So it looks like we have pure winners but when I tried to swap some moons, I had to first buy ETH, send it from exchange to my Arbitrum One wallet then bridge it to Arbitrum Nova (I had to research this topic as I was confused with similar names). Which made me think why there are even so many of them?
I guess just time will tell which L2s will win and which will lose.
So which one is your favorite? Is it Arbitrum Nova as it support Moons?
*Optimistic Rollup is a Layer 2 scaling solution for blockchains, allowing more transactions by assuming validity but verifying fraud proofs if challenged.
\*zkSync Rollup* is a Layer 2 scaling solution using zkSNARKs for Ethereum, providing increased throughput and reduced fees, while maintaining security.
Edit: snap, forget to add other, anyway pool has top 5 by TVL
