Tip: avoid some common scams by closing your unsolicited Reddit messages and chats

“Have you gotten your free NFT yet?”

An easy scam to spot. I got two of these messages today as Reddit chats from two separate accounts that’s I blocked. I’ve reported them in the past but usually get a message back from Reddit that their conversation wasn’t in violation of terms or some such. (Guess the Reddit team didn’t claim their NFT either)

It begs the question though, has anyone here in the r/cc community actually had good experiences through Reddit chats and messages? Especially unsolicited ones? I’ve kept my chats open primarily b/c I like to be able to “say thanks” for the random award or two. But maybe it makes more sense to close off chats and messages altogether to avoid even a chance of accidentally clicking a scam link. You can do so by tapping on your user icon -> settings -> u/(name) -> chat and messaging permissions. I’d love to see this become standard advice from an r/cc bot to new users if it’s not already as they’re probably the most likely to fall for scam links and unsolicited messages.

I’d hate for anyone to miss out on the free airdrops though. /s
