To people who work in the cryptocurrency industry: What are the biggest headaches with finding jobs? What's the shadiest project you've worked for? What do you do now?

I guess we can call this a "networking thread."

I have a few points to vent on here, but here goes:

Forenote / Profile: I'm a foreigner living in Asia with an undergraduate degree in Chinese language and literature and the will to learn new things for work.

The biggest headache I had was how many jobs I've applied for and how few responses I'll receive. See the thing is, even though you see some job postings that say, "remote" in the description, they'll probably prioritize applicants who are based in the same region as the job (USA, remote = somewhere in America).

That's not to say, I don't get offers. I do get offers, and many of them are from Chinese-owned exchanges. I have an undergraduate degree in Chinese language and literature and I'm in a situation where visa sponsorship is not a problem (that is to say, I don't need sponsorship), so I'll get Chinese companies trying to hire me to work 996 (9 in the morning to 9 in the evening 6 days each week, pioneered by Alibaba's Jack Ma) and even on your day off you still need to at least communicate with coworkers if they ask a question.

One thing that really drove me crazy: in 2020 I was teased with a position that paid 10k USD / month by a recruiter / job agency. I didn't get that one. This happened again in 2021. I failed to get that one too. Then in 2022, I had a direct job interview with a company that does 996 (described in the paragraph above) and they gave me an invitation letter that said $15,000 / month. I agreed to work for them, and for two weeks I was working like I was being paid that much without complaining, trying my best to do everything I could to justify that salary. I treated the job like it was my second religion. Then they gave me the contract. The contract said the salary was $1500 / month. The boss treated her employees like trash. I think there was only one other person working for the boss that the boss would not disrespect at all. I wanted to leave that job then and there and the boss just would not let me quit, always begging me to stay.

What are your stories?
