I did a quick search on this topic and came across this:
"....congestion of the network is one of the main reasons for the high gas fees of ethereum. The upgrade is about to bring an increase in the transaction per second which will definitely reduce congestion of the network leading to a reduction in the transaction fees."
Even for small transactions I've seen gas fees range from like $20-50 on the ethereum network. I understand layer 2 scaling is a big part of reducing costs, but for the time being many people are using other networks for defi because the major platforms don't seem compatible with L2 yet.
I've read that POS could lead to a 99% reduction in energy usage. I doubt that translates to a 99% reduction in gas fees though. Any idea to what extent the gas fees will be reduced with 2.0? Any educated guesses?
