'Top universities have added crypto to the curriculum'. They have, but the standards of the new content is very, very poor.

I've been seeing a lot of posts about how 'Top universities have added crypto to the curriculum'.

I currently go to a top European business school for my MSc in Finance. I have noticed how crypto has played a role in the modules I have studied. There's definitely a focus on how crypto can change target asset allocations for portfolios, how blockchain can disrupt business models, and other general applications.

However, I think the quality of teaching, even at a top school, has been very poor. The three main things I think are concerning:

- Old professors who don't quite understand crypto are trying to convey the ideas. In one lecture, a professor said about blockchain technology 'The ledger comprises blocks, which in turn are mined every ten minutes.' and throughout the entire lecture he used Bitcoin and blockchain interchangeably as if they are one and the same. They are not, Bitcoin uses blockchain technology but there are other iterations of blockchain etc. It is concerning that there is misinformation about crypto.

- Crypto is often shoehorned into other topics. It is more of an afterthought than true dedication to the topic. In one lecture it was just one slide out of 400. Still counts as education about crypto though...

- Professors (especially those teaching things like portfolio management) talk disparagingly about crypto - saying it's useless and has no value.

Tl;dr It is good that universities have added crypto to the curriculum. However, a lot of the content is inaccurate and biased. It is not as bullish as the news seems.
