Trip down memory lane: r/CryptoCurrency threads from 8-10 years ago

Inspired by a post over at an investing subreddit I thought it'd be fun to see what others were saying at the start of this subreddit and what's hung about! Worth mentioning I was definitely not around the subreddit at these times so I'm not entirely sure what the vibe was like back then.

Sadly I think the first post(s) in this subreddit were lots of giveaways but the first "actual" post I could find is:

Why We're About To See An Altcoin Boom

Lots of mentions about BTC and LTC with some others like CureCoin and VertCoin thrown in there. Lots of mentions of Doge including this from u/borderal

Dogecoin has the most possibilities I feel, purely because as a very young crypto-currency it is growing at a pace that Bitcoin and indeed LTC could only dream of. Plus it's very cheap at the moment - the potential here is enormous :-)

Is anybody else tired of the altcoin scene ?

Mixed views as it looks like alt coins back then were full of rug pulls and scams with no alt coins providing any sort of utility (although has that really changed or do we just call them 'shitcoins now'):

I am so very tired of it, its full of scams and idiots that truly believe they are not scams.

I'd like to see Shibas bite back as they are the real social currency.

Yes, now i only have bitcoin, dogecoin and reddcoin

The death of Dogecoin

Bit of entertainment in there including this from u/lleti:

The amount of incorrect information on here is insane. One such shining example;

lleti, admitted being hired by Moolahโ€”though that only lasted for a few weeks, before heor she resigned.

Can confirm lleti has not resigned from Moolah.

Source: am lleti.

Life after Doge...

I'm looking to get out of Doge and into a new coin as soon as possible.

u/tommy1977 hope you stayed in it mate, would paid dividends. Looking like hodling and forgetting about it does work (for some stuff)

DYOR also being cemented in this thread with this comment from [deleted]:

Don't take advice from people in this subreddit... There's 99% shit out there and you need to use your judgement to find the good stuff.

New to cryptocurrencies - what is the best currency iyo and why?

u/PoopNoodlez with a popular mention:

I like dogecoin because its community is pushing really hard for it to be valid. Also it's very profitable to mine and relatively easy to buy things with.

u/yonkfu with the bold prediction:

Bitcoin=gold cryptocurrency, litecoin= silver and Dogecoin= copper. I see the value of Bitcoin hitting $5k, litecoin hitting $100 and doge $1

With a lot of mentions about vertcoin, LTC and quarkcoin.

If you had to pick five, which would it be?

Honourable mentions from that thread: BTC, LTC, Doge and Vert.

Tue, March 2015 (I know, a bit less than 8 years ago but there really wasn't a whole lot actually)
A fully decentralized exchange just went live.

Apparently this is what a DEX looked like 8 years ago.

All in all there wasn't a whole lot back then and a lot of the threads were new people getting into crypto early asking where they should invest their money (as well as lots [and lots] of giveaways).
