I feel like ethereum taking along time for 2.0 is a possible indicator that they are really making sure the merge is going to go smooth to prevent any glitches, bugs, hacks. Yes gas fees suck but if you take a look at other L1 cryptos they start of amazing and then get congested with high gas fees making the scalability issue the same again for other blockchains.
