Zcash is currently a Proof-of-Work (PoW) based privacy coin.
Recently, Vitalik Buterin donated to support independent research exploring the possibility of adding Proof of Stake (PoS) on top of PoW for Zcash β effectively a hybrid consensus model rather than a full transition.
This is an interesting contrast with Ethereum, which has completely moved away from PoW and now relies entirely on PoS.
The research is being led by independent Zcash developers and organizations, and the goal appears to be exploring security, decentralization, and sustainability trade-offs while preserving Zcashβs privacy guarantees.

Curious to hear thoughts from the community.
Do hybrid PoW + PoS systems make sense for privacy-focused chains like Zcash, or is this just unnecessary complexity?
