Since August 2019, IBM has been one of the early members of the Hashgraph council.
Though we haven't seen much development from IBM on Hedera... Until now.
The DICE Digital ID tool was first presented in Hedera's council meeting on Nov 8-10 2023.
While still early in developments this shows a lot of promise to the overall relations between Hedera and IBM extending into utility.
Though there is yet to be comprehensive information around the details, I believe there are a few probabilistic outcomes from how DICE will be formed.
The digital ID solution will likely leverage Hedera Consensus Service for validation of the IDs.
This is arguably Hedera's most utilized service.
But additionally, not only does also directly tie with IBM due to them being a validator member themselves.
But we've also seen that IBM had filed a patent for cross network communication, which not only showcased an API mirroring the SATP framework by QNT & MIT.
It also mentions use of a "Crypto Consensus Service".
Given that this is an IBM patent & how they directly mention a "crypto"... We know IBM doesn't work with many crypto projects directly.
In fact CSPR & HBAR are the only two.
Whereas their focus with Casper is on AI Governance, while they provide governance and consensus to the Hashgraph... It just makes sense putting 2 & 2 together.
And of course the fact that this was brought up in a Hedera conference.
It's also more than likely that this digital ID solution will utilize IBM Weaver/Hyperledger Cacti.
This is the interoperability solution brought by IBM, in which we've seen use through bridging IPwe from HL Fabric to Casper Network.
Additionally we've seen this tested alongside HSBC's multi currency CBDC trial.
While this has Weaver's merged with Hyperledger Cactus to form Hyperledger Cacti... This is once again, another SATP compliant tool.
And it's likely that we'll see IBM look to extend their DICE digital ID tool beyond just a single DLT network.
As we know IBM has been closely working with Hyperledger & even one of the initial builders of Hyperledger Fabric.
This is arguably the most utilized private permissioned DLT today amongst industry use cases.
It would only make sense that IBM would extend their services to different blockchains, while still leveraging the consensus provided by Hedera.
The most exciting aspect about this to me is how they brought this up during a Hedera conference.
As it hasn't been mentioned elsewhere, this goes to show the level of trust in the governance council.
The activity & announcements on HBAR have been nothing short of amazing lately.
And seeing IBM further extend it's connection with Hedera's just the cherry on top????
